Finding Government Information

The U.S Government collects and publishes a large amount of information about its laws, its regulations, their enforcement, and on those in government. A helpful way to start on your research subject is to ask yourself who would collect or publish information on it. If you are researching a President's policies or want to know how federal agencies are reacting to an issue, you'd go to President & Federal Government on this guide. For legislation on the subject or the voting records and statements on those making laws about that subject you'd go to Congress & Federal Legislation. If you want to know how the issue has been considered by the Supreme Court in relation to the Constitution, you'd go to The Supreme Court & The Judiciary section. If you are more interested in how it is handled at a state or local level, see the State & Local Sources.
